Job summary

The Jed Foundation seeks an AI Safety & Wellbeing Director to lead work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, mental health, and suicide prevention. This remote role collaborates with technology companies, researchers, and domain experts to shape safety frameworks, evaluations, and guidance for high-stakes applications.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant professional experience in AI, AI safety, safety evaluation, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary AI technologies (LLMs, multimodal, agents).
• Experience applying tech safety, evaluation or research in high-stakes domains (mental health, public health).
• Technical fluency to engage with researchers, engineers, and product teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain understanding of AI developments and their mental health implications.
• Advance AI safety, evaluation, benchmarking, and related field-building efforts with partners.
• Apply model behavior knowledge to identify gaps and risks in safety approaches.
• Develop guidance on AI safety, safety frameworks, and responsible deployment.
• Manage technology-company advising work and provide actionable recommendations on AI products and safety.
