Job Description:
The Head Coach organizes, coordinates, and promotes a comprehensive athletic program designed to:
- Meet the needs and interests of the school community.
- Provide effective leadership to ensure a positive learning environment and emphasize academic achievement.
- Demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and positive human relations, serving as a role model for students.
This position reports to the Middle School Athletics Coordinator/Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities.
Location: Patrick Henry K-8 School.
Qualifications:
- ACPS staff preferred.
- Knowledge and background in the assigned sport.
- Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport is desirable.
Essential Functions:
- Instruct athletes in fundamentals, strategies, and physical training for individual and team success.
- Educate participants on personal hygiene and safety, and reporting injuries promptly.
- Inform students about the insurance program available through Alexandria City Public Schools.
- Provide a safe environment with adequate supervision.
- Maintain accurate performance records for individuals and teams.
- Manage equipment inventory and records.
- Communicate team policies and regulations to participants.
- Ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations, including those of the Virginia High School League.
- Complete required documentation and forms for league and school compliance.
- Follow financial procedures regarding school activity funds.
- Establish communication procedures with parents/guardians.
- Promote athletic participation and handle public relations.
- Implement injury response procedures and ensure first aid readiness.
- Inspect facilities and equipment for safety.
- Engage in professional development activities.
- Participate in recognition and award programs.
- Foster good sportsmanship and a positive atmosphere.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the work unit's effectiveness.
