Head Lifeguard Job Description

The Head Lifeguard’s primary role is leading the Lifeguard team. This includes training new hires, conducting In-Services, observing and assisting Lifeguards, conducting skills testing, organizing rotations, ensuring duties are completed, maintaining records, reporting hazards and maintenance needs, scheduling, and coaching. The Head Lifeguard works closely with the Aquatics Manager to ensure proper staffing, training, and leadership. They may also assist in training and leading Pool Attendants. Attendance at all Lifeguard In-Services, Aquatics, Club, and Company meetings is required. Lifeguards must work holidays and all aquatics-related events, including Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Fourth of July, which are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard Instructor, CPR, and First Aid Certification. Must pass an audition to demonstrate current skills.
• Minimum age of 17.
• Experience managing Lifeguards and scheduling, or at least 3 months as a Houstonian Lifeguard.
• Fluent in English.
• Confidence in coaching peers, enforcing rules, and following procedures.
• Positive, friendly attitude.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• Attention to cleanliness and detail.

Responsibilities

• Ensure pools are properly guarded with continuous surveillance.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.
• Provide excellent customer service, enforce rules with care.
• Maintain a professional appearance and high customer service standards.
• Complete inspection reports, logs, and maintenance duties.
• Manage scheduling, resolve issues, and find substitutes as needed.
• Perform miscellaneous duties, monitor pool safety, and respond to hazards.
• Follow procedures for pool closures and ensure availability of loaner items.
• Maintain cleanliness of furniture, decks, and facilities.
• Assist members with seating, towels, and gear.
• Regularly patrol pool areas for service needs and safety concerns.
• Report hazards and problems immediately.
• Test and record water chemistry regularly.
• Contribute to security and safety, report suspicious activity.
• Work at events, including holidays, and assist in meetings.

Work Environment

Must swim regularly for conditioning and practice lifesaving skills. Work is in a fast-paced, high-traffic outdoor environment requiring focus for extended periods.

Physical Requirements

Extended outdoor hours, moving furniture, hauling equipment, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing related tasks as needed.
