Job Summary:

The Head Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at City aquatic facilities. This position performs all lifeguard duties while also providing lead-level support through staff supervision, training assistance, scheduling support, and daily operational oversight. The Head Lifeguard assists with enforcing facility rules, maintaining water quality standards, completing required documentation, and supporting overall aquatic operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of lifeguarding experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs all duties of a lifeguard, including supervising swimmers, monitoring pool activities, preventing accidents, and addressing unsafe conditions.

Provides emergency care, including first aid and water rescues, until emergency personnel arrive.

Supports other areas of the SportsPark as needed, including events, programs, rentals, and coverage during staff absences.

Attends required training sessions and staff meetings.

Collaborates with colleagues and assists other departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Lifeguarding techniques, water rescue, and emergency response procedures.

Pool safety rules, facility regulations, and patron supervision practices.

Basic water chemistry testing and pool maintenance procedures.

Customer service and conflict resolution techniques.

City policies and procedures.

Skills in:

Supervising swimmers and enforcing safety rules consistently.

Responding calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Assisting with staff training and leadership support.

Clear verbal communication with patrons and staff.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor aquatic environments. Must be able to communicate clearly and read, see, and hear in various conditions. Requires the physical ability to run, bend, kneel, lift up to 50 pounds, and handle pool equipment and supplies. Exposure to water, chemicals, humidity, noise, and varying weather conditions is expected. May be required to perform rescues or provide first aid in emergency situations.
