Head Lifeguard - NEW Summer Pay Rate - Caldwell YMCA

Position Overview

The Head Lifeguard provides leadership within the aquatic program, ensuring a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment for members and participants.

Responsibilities
  1. Create a safe environment through active deck scanning, punctuality, and role modeling safe behavior.
  2. Serve as a Designated First Responder.
  3. Engage members and participants with effective, age-appropriate communication.
  4. Encourage and engage members during swim tests and lessons.
  5. Develop meaningful relationships and engage members regularly.
  6. Provide appropriate feedback to participants and members.
  7. Act as a point of contact for colleagues in the same role.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older at hire.
  • Ability to differentiate colors (red, yellow, blue, green).
  • Pass all standard safety drills with at least 80% accuracy.
  • Swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less (400 yards crawl, 100 yards breaststroke).
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and make all feel welcome.
  • Respond calmly and promptly to safety emergencies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, professional and adaptable demeanor.
Schedule

Part-time, approximately 20 hours weekly, with flexible shifts Monday through Friday.
