This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Silo Ridge Field Club, set outside of Amenia, New York.

Silo Ridge Field Club is seeking a Seasonal Head Lifeguard to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department. This position is available from May 20 – September 30, 2025. (weekends only in September) Current lifeguard certification is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising guards on duty and facilitation of guard in chair rotations.
  • Overall vision for the pool cleanliness and organization.
  • Work with Outdoor Pursuits team to ensure constant flow of towels in/out for pool complex.
  • Work with Director of Outdoor Pursuits in finding agreeable solutions for member and team challenges.
  • Surveying activity in the pool or lake to ensure the safety of all our members and guests.
  • Maintain an organized appearance of the pool and lake area throughout the day.
  • Ensure daily set up and breakdown of all activities and equipment is completed.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns immediately to the Director of Outdoor Pursuits.
  • Enforce pool or lake rules and regulations.
  • Provide risk management for aquatic areas.
  • Lifeguards will be required to become certified for both pool and dark water conditions, which includes CPR/AED/First Aid certifications as well.
  • Perform first aid treatments when necessary.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • No specific degree required - though a bachelor's may be desirable.
  • 2 years working in an aquatic environment preferred.
  • Six months of Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Lifeguard Certification (pool and dark water) required.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED Certification required.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions in English; additional languages desirable.

Additional Requirements

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
