Position: Head Girls Basketball Coach Location: Broad Rock Middle School

Report to: Athletic Director and Principal

Broad Rock Middle School: Broad Rock Middle School is a public middle school, dedicated to developing students to become problem solvers, critical thinkers, effective communicators, technology users, and contributing members to a global workforce and society. Broad Rock Middle School is a Grade 6-7-8 comprehensive middle school serving over 600 students.

Position Summary: The Head Coach is responsible for coaching the Boys Basketball program. The position also requires duties such as:

• Supervising athletes during practices and competition
• Instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities.
• Formulate game strategy.
• Maintain the equipment in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
• Model behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators
• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
• Traveling to and from away contests
• Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, etc.
• Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of Head Coaching Basketball experience at the Middle School or High School level preferred.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount. Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the court.
• Must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.
• Must possess the ability to assess players.
• Candidates will be interviewed and the candidate who ranks highest in the interview process and meets the requirements of the position will be recommended for the position
• Completion of a successful interview.
• Successfully complete the RIIL-NFHS sponsored Fundamentals of Coaching Course
• Successfully complete a standard First Aid and CPR course.
• Successfully complete the NFHS Concussion Course. (renewed annually)
• Successfully complete the Rhode Island State Component. (renewed annually)
• Successfully complete the online course NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest. (renewed annually)
• Successfully complete a Background check.
• Successfully complete any additional courses assigned by the RIIL/RIPCOA.
• New coaching hires must complete all courses within six (6) months of date of hire.
• The Head Middle School Basketball Coach is required to abide by the RIIL/RIPCOA rules and abide by and assist in implementing and enforcing all policies of the South Kingstown School District and the Athletic Administration.

Compensation: All coaches shall be paid as established in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the National Education Association South Kingstown. The Head Middle School Basketball Coach position stipend will be $2,723.00.

Broad Rock Middle School is located on the Atlantic Coast, 32 miles south of Providence, Rhode Island, in the village of Wakefield. The town covers an area of 63 square miles with a population of 28,000.The main campus of the University of Rhode Island is within five miles of Broad Rock Middle School.As of February there are 435 students enrolled at BRMSThe administrative staff consists of a principal, and two assistant principals, department chairs in the areas of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and special education, unified arts, and guidance.The professional staff includes 40 classroom teachers including 7 special education teachers. There are 2 school counselors, 1 student assistance counselor, a media specialist as well as a school nurse, a school psychologist and a social worker. We have 9 para-professional aides to also support teaching and learning.
