Job summary

Getty Center, in Los Angeles, seeks a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to oversee one or more teams completing grounds maintenance while upholding safety and workmanship standards.

You will assist the supervisor with planning, estimation, problem solving, labor coordination and reporting, and may contribute to hands-on work and staff training. This role requires a strong background in fine gardening and irrigation systems.

Qualifications

• High school or GED preferred.
• 10+ years experience in an institutional setting with fine gardening.
• Bi-lingual Spanish and English.
• California driver’s license with fewer than three DMV points.
• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Work in adverse weather and uneven terrain.
• Demonstrated ability to organize daily work and instruct teams.
• Proficient knowledge of irrigation control and distribution systems.
• Advanced landscape maintenance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate equipment, supplies and general logistics between teams.
• Plan and schedule regular and specialized grounds maintenance activities.
• Assist supervisor in information gathering and planning.
• Report problems and assist with resolution.
• Maintain regular contact with the Facilities help desk and staff.
• May assist with hands-on production work.
• Demonstrate work and train subordinates and teams.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Ability to communicate via radio and phone
• Ability to communicate basic information in writing as well as understand written communication
• Basic computer skills with office software and email applications and demonstrated experience with irrigation control and distribution systems
• Must have demonstrated skills and/or certificate, licensing in one or more of the following areas: arboriculture, pesticide handling and application, heavy equipment operation, lift operation, tractor operation, irrigation management, general horticulture including soil/water relationships, plant identification, turf management, wildfire fuel management and regulations, and safe work practices
