Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Head Day Camp Counselor/Driver to supervise and guide children in a Summer Day Camp program. You will plan weekly activities, supervise group activities, and ensure safe dismissal procedures to guardians.

The role requires 21+ years old with experience with children, a valid PA driver's license for van driving, and completion of KeepSAfe and statutory background trainings in PA. This is a duty-filled, mission-driven position with daily camp operations.

Qualifications

• 21+ years of age and experience working with children.
• Must have a valid PA Driver's License and ability to drive 12 passenger van.
• Must complete The Salvation Army KeepSAfe training and follow guidelines.
• Must complete training on recognizing and reporting child abuse per PA Act 153, within 30 days, with renewal every five years.

• Prepare a schedule of weekly activities for Counselor Directed Activity times.
• Lead children through activities with enthusiasm and present daily programs: organized activities, theme activities, devotions.
• Enforce rules and maintain safe, fun environment for all campers.
• Initiate and maintain positive relationships with staff, children, and guardians.
• Transport children to and from day camp trips.
• Work in a team and communicate daily with the Child Care Coordinator.

Reporting Relationship: Child Care Coordinator, Assistant Child Care Coordinator, Music Ministry Assistant, Head CounselorsSalary: $13.75 per hour

Responsibilities

Position Description: Provide a safe, fun, and caring environment for children enrolled in the Summer Day Camp program. Counselors are responsible for leading the group of children in assigned activities and implementing procedures.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Prepare a schedule of weekly activities for use during the Counselor Directed Activity times, gathering supplies and prepared to teach and engage the children
• Lead children through activities with enthusiasm and assist with presentation of daily program offers: organized activities, theme activities, devotions, etc.
• Consistently adhere and implement the process for child release from program to parent or organized guardian
• Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conductive to fun and safety for all campers
• Initiate and maintain positive relationships with all staff, guest, children, and parent/guardian.
• Work in a team environment and communicate with Child Care Coordinator daily regarding concerns/issues with the program, children, parents, and coworkers
• Assist in maintaining clean-up schedules to maintain the cleanliness of the building and property, including completion of task listed on daily clean-up list
• Role model dignity and respect for others at all times. Actively participate, while encouraging children in activities
• Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of the property, ensure all rules and regulations are followed.
• Complete The Salvation Army KeepSAfe training and hold to all KeepSAfe guidelines
• Transport children to and from day camp trips.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• 21+ years of age and experience working with children

• Work schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs
• Possess a valid PA Drivers License with the ability to drive 12 passenger van
• As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
• Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of the property, ensure all rules and regulations are followed.Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
• Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
