Job summary

Pitt County Schools Creekside Elementary in Winterville, North Carolina, seeks a Head Custodian to supervise custodial staff and maintain school facilities. Starting pay is NC04 $16.83 per hour, with 12 months employment and full-time benefits.

The role includes cleaning and maintenance tasks, grounds upkeep, safety system operation, and collaboration with students, teachers, and staff under the School Principal's direction.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to work with others and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to read and write.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and washing floors, walls, ceilings; dusting and polishing furniture; washing windows; stripping, spraying, buffing, waxing, and polishing floors; washing and cleaning restrooms.
• Set up and shift furniture and furnishings as required.
• Provide assistance to students, teachers, public, and any other employee as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain grounds by cutting grass with hand and power mowers, collecting litter, trimming bushes and small trees, raking grounds, and performing minor repairs to walks, paths, walls play apparatus, roads, and site improvements.
• Assist in building maintenance on a handyman's level by replacing window glass, cleaning gutters and drainpipes, freeing stopped sanitary and sink plumbing, repairing leaks, repairing furniture, doing simple painting, replacing lights, and performing other related work.
• Transport teaching supplies and equipment as required by the teaching staff and principal.
• Operate heating, lighting, ventilation, and electrical controls as specified. Perform routing lubrication services and minor preventive maintenance services.
• Perform inventory control checks.
• Assist in key maintenance program.
• Operate security systems and fire safety systems.
• Inspect the school building and grounds, and report deficiencies.
• Maintain watch over property and grounds against trespassing, vandalism, and fire hazards. Signal police and fire departments.
• Order miscellaneous custodial material and supplies.
• Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
• Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License and a Pitt County Schools Pocket Card and operate a school bus when needed.
