Job summary

Bulloch County Schools in Statesboro, Georgia, is seeking a Head Custodian to manage custodial operations at the Central Office and designated areas. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus experience working with diverse groups and a strong commitment to district values.

SALARY: Based on Bulloch County Schools salary/supplement schedule

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for all aspects of custodial work at the Central Office and other designated areas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experienceworking with a diverse group of people.
  • Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and acccountable.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position. When appropriate, reasonable accommodations will be provided to afford persons with disabilities an opportunity to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable of how to operate and maintain floor clearing equipment.
  • Experience working as a lead or assistant lead custodian.
  • Familiar with the use of chemicals and chemical storage responsibilities (MSDS requirements).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates power tools and environmental housekeeping equipment.
  • Performs manual labor both indoors and out, in all weather conditions.
  • Must follow all safety rules and be able to pass drug and/or alcohol tests when required.
  • Opens and/or closes the facility and checks to ensure that the building is secure after closing or assigns duties to responsible individual when applicable.
  • Supervises custodial staff as needed (if applicable) and ensures cleaning is to Bulloch County School System Standards.
  • Recommends discipline of unsatisfactory performance of custodial workers to supervisor (if applicable).
  • Requests appliance, equipment and cleaning materials when needed.
  • Keeps an adequate inventory supply on hand at all times as per the established guidelines.
  • Plans assignments and explains and demonstrates how they are to be performed.
  • Reports any deficiencies in the heating and cooling system, maintenance needs and custodial cleaning equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs and assembles furniture as needed.
  • Returns to facility after hours when called to restore building to proper condition when needed.
  • Performs routine tasks as it relates to trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning, conference room setups, etc.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

PERFORMANCE FACTORS:

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Interaction with Others: Ability to maintain, on a regular and consistent basis, relationships that are characterized by high expectations, teamwork, and collaboration. Ability to be flexible relative to daily routines. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the differences among diverse populations.
