POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Custodian ensures our school premises are not only clean but also inviting, sanitary, and safe for students, staff, and visitors. This role oversees a range of specialized cleaning operations and manages the setup of our facilities for classroom activities and campus events. The Head Custodian provides guidance and support to the custodial team, ensuring all tasks are executed proficiently and on schedule. This position is crucial in maintaining our school’s standards of excellence, making it a thriving environment for everyone.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Cleaning procedures/hazardous material handling techniques training
  • Safety training or certification
  • Asbestos training or certification
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint
  • Background Clearance

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred

Skills-based Competencies

Required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating standard office equipment and office technology.

Knowledge-based Competencies

Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning including floor and carpet; basic tools for minor repairs; safety practices and procedures; green cleaning procedures; and tact and courtesy.

Ability-based Competencies

Required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; and physical fitness for duty: ability to lift weight appropriate for the job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Generally ranges from 5-10 bullet points)

  • Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (including classrooms, offices, gyms, and pools) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Conducts various training sessions and drills with staff to ensure proficiency in health, safety, and emergency procedures, including the operational readiness of alarm systems.
  • Consults with administrative personnel to plan and prioritize custodial activities, distribute cleaning supplies and equipment, and ensure optimal maintenance of facilities.
  • Regularly inspects facilities to ensure safety, attractiveness, and cleanliness, and to identify any needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of necessary items for facility upkeep.
  • Oversees facility maintenance activities and custodial staff, ensuring efficient completion of tasks in compliance with established standards.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed and convey information crucial to job performance.
  • Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment and manage inventories, including preparing written materials for supply requisitions and safety inspections.
  • Responds to safety and operational concerns promptly and effectively communicate with staff, students, and visitors to address inquiries and ensure secure facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
