Position Title: Head Custodian

Classification: Teamsters

Reports To: Principal/Director of Facilities

Position Goal: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Position Rate: $22.25 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Operate and maintain the school heating plant to ensure comfortable temperatures.
• Maintain heating plant in good repair and clean condition; make minor repairs and notify mechanics when needed.
• Handle emergency notifications to the foreman.
• Serve as custodian leader and oversee custodial staff training.
• Perform minor repairs, requisition supplies, and assist in security checks.
• Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance tasks, including sweeping, dusting, floor waxing, disinfecting, and window washing.
• Maintain the school grounds, including mowing, trimming, and cleaning outdoor areas.
• Ensure safety protocols such as exit door checks and flag raising/lowering are followed.
• Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed.
• Comply with waste disposal laws and assist with supply deliveries.
• Prepare incident reports and communicate with staff and supervisors.
• Perform physical tasks like lifting up to 50 pounds and operating snow removal equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Certificates: None required

Skills: Ability to interpret safety and maintenance instructions, communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and demonstrate physical strength and dexterity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Regularly required to stand, walk, handle objects, and communicate. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying temperatures and slippery conditions.
