Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent literacy skills.
• Prior custodial or maintenance experience.
• Strong supervisory skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and follow oral and written instructions.
• Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, inspect, and evaluate the custodial work required in the building.
• Assist with the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of custodial employees and substitutes.
• Assign, monitor, and participate in daily custodial, maintenance, and minor repair work.
• Ensure appropriate custodial coverage during all hours of building use.
• Identify and promptly report needed repairs, maintenance concerns, and damage to school property.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of custodial supplies and recommend the purchase of supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Serve as the primary building caretaker when outside groups use the school.
• Respond to building emergencies and coordinate appropriate action with custodial and maintenance staff.
• Perform other appropriate responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of Buildings & Grounds, or Superintendent of Schools.

POSITION: Head Custodian

SCHOOL: Elementary School

HOURS: 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., Monday–Friday

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including frequent bending and walking and lifting up to 50 pounds.
