Job summary

Hamilton Southeastern Schools seeks a Lead Custodian to provide leadership and supervision for custodial staff. The role involves training, scheduling, and ensuring cleanliness and safety across school facilities.

The position reports to the Head Custodian and requires ability to manage equipment, safety protocols, and after-hours building security. Hours are standard school-day shifts (6:00am-2:30pm) with responsibilities for emergencies and special setups.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and training for custodians. Give work direction to assist custodians or volunteers.
• Plan for and carry out special setup or cleanup requirements with responsible officials.
• Assist head custodian with completion of cleaning schedule for assigned areas within frequency requirements.
• Lift and move furniture, cartons, boxes and buckets weighing >50 lbs, with or without accommodation; assist loading/unloading of delivery vehicles.
• Possess a basic understanding of chemicals and processes used in the cleaning schedule.
• Maintain a positive attitude with all staff and students, super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
• Inspect scheduled areas for safety hazards and report to head custodian; guard against fire, theft and illegal entry.
• Observe cleaning and maintenance needs for assigned areas and report to head custodian.
• Inspect assigned shift areas after hours to ensure cleanliness and monitor performance.
• Handle emergencies and emergency repairs.
• Report concerns regarding work performance or lateness to head custodian.
• Assume responsibility for other duties as assigned.

JOB GOAL

To provide leadership and assistance in the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical facility that will provide for a safe, clean and habitable environment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide leadership and training for custodians. Give work direction to assist custodians or volunteers.
• Work with responsible officials with planning for and carrying out special setup or cleanup requirements.
• Assist head custodian with completion of cleaning schedule for the assigned areas within frequency requirements provided.
• Assist in cleaning areas as needed. Lift and move furniture, cartons, boxes and buckets weighing in excess of 50 pounds, with or without accommodation. Assist in loading and unloading of delivery vehicles. Perform minor repairs and PM functions.
• Possess a basic understanding of the chemicals and processes used in the cleaning schedule.
• Maintain a positive attitude with all staff and students, super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
• Routinely inspect scheduled areas of the building for possible safety hazards and report to the head custodian. Guard against fire, theft and illegal entry.
• Observe cleaning and maintenance needs or requirements for the areas assigned and report these to head custodian.
• After hours or on non-school days the lead person is to inspect the safe, efficient and proper operation of all equipment and systems. This includes securing windows and entryways.
• Lead person is responsible for visually inspecting their assigned shift areas to ensure cleanliness, and monitoring the custodian’s work performance.
• Able to handle emergencies and emergency repairs.
• Report all concerns regarding the work performance, lateness, etc. of the custodians to the head custodian.
• Assume responsibility for other duties as assigned.
