Job summary

The North Carolina Zoo seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Curator of Large Mammals. You will manage the care of elephants, giraffe, rhino, and North American mammals, and oversee the Red Wolf propagation center and SAFE program.

You will lead animal care, supervise teams, set priorities, and ensure safety and welfare across sections. A biology bachelor’s and AZA zoo experience are highly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Zoology, Animal Husbandry, or related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Four years progressive experience in zoological work in an AZA-accredited zoo.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead care for large mammals and manage staff and facilities.
• Establish priorities for husbandry, veterinary, behavioral management, and welfare.
• Oversee facilities and resources for safe operations.
• Collaborate with Curatorial and Animal Management teams to maintain high standards.
