Job Description for Head Cook - Springfield City School District

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Head Cook for Lagonda Elementary School for the 2025-26 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state-of-the-art buildings in west-central Ohio. The district values diversity and aims to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students, offering opportunities such as a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, a digital learning lab with activities like 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare food for the school using standard operating procedures developed by the Food and Nutrition Department to safely and nutritiously feed students and staff.
  2. Adhere to cashier standards of operations, reporting, and maintenance.
  3. Follow systems to maintain compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.
  4. Operate all equipment according to safety and efficiency procedures.
  5. Serve as a contact at the assigned school for issues that may arise and report all issues to the Supervisor promptly.
  6. Prepare a monthly inventory.
  7. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork as required.
  8. Ensure the safe and accurate receiving, storage, rotation, and disposition of all food and supplies.
  9. Work as a cashier on a regular basis or when needed.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a volume production kitchen environment (preferred).
  • Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to participate in professional development.
  • Ability to relate to and teach students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in the role.
Additional Information:

Work hours are 7 hours per day, 188 days per year, Monday to Friday, 6:30 am - 1:30 pm or as assigned. Starting salary is $19.44 per hour. This position is for the 2025/26 school year starting in August, with a $1,500 bonus awarded in November. All employees receive professional development. Salary and other details are available online in the Springfield Education United Support Staff agreement (SEUSS).
