We’re Falu House Scandinavian Deli, a quick-service Scandinavian restaurant / café in Greenpoint, Brooklyn serving up pastries, breakfast, lunch and ready-to-eat items. We've had an amazing first year and we're looking to build upon our success with a lead role on our BOH team.

If you have experience in kitchens or culinary school and are looking to hone your skills with a new cuisine - this could be a great role for you!

Responsibilities as Lead Cook

Beyond standard health/safety, prep and line duties, your role will include:

  • Development and collaboration on new menu items.
  • Communication with Owner on success of BOH team, systems and inventory.
  • Responsible for ensuring all systems are being utilized and done correctly.
  • If there are better ways of doing things - let's implement it!
  • Daily and weekly planning:
  • Assigning team prep.
  • Inventory / order management.
  • Managing costs and order volume with an understanding of the businesses financial goals.
  • Holding the standard:
  • Responsible for holding quality and standard of kitchen output
  • Providing necessary training on BOH systems, recipes, cooking techniques and any food safety gaps.

You will be the lead in the kitchen and of BOH team and have agency to make decisions for smoother and safer operations!

Who we're looking for

Professional kitchen experience and/or a culinary degree are a requirement - you need to know what you're doin' :D

Knife skills, food handlers, kitchen safety skills, and ability to work with commercial kitchen tools are also requirements.

We do not require any experience with Scandinavian cuisine - you'll learn that!

Pastry experience is a major plus, but also not necessary, we can teach you that.

Overall, your personality, reliability and ability to keep your cool are the most important to us. We are looking to build a team of people who are respectful , good communicators and reliable . We have an amazing team currently who love working together and will need to make sure you're also a personality and character fit with us as well.
