Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Head Coach, Women’s Water Polo. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the NCAA-DI.
This position is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of a varsity intercollegiate athletic program in support of the mission and core values of the Athletic Department/University. Duties include hiring staff; recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes; establishing a competitive schedule; coordinating practice planning, skill development, and designing strategies for competition; mentoring student-athletes; overseeing booster clubs and development initiatives; organizing sport camps; managing the budget; collaborating with athletic and university units; and ensuring adherence to NCAA, conference, and university rules.
The Head Coach has autonomy in recruiting, coaching tactics, budget management, staff oversight, and other key areas. Responsibilities also include mentoring assistant coaches, scheduling and travel, promoting the team and university, fundraising, alumni engagement, practice planning, equipment management, and enforcing team rules and community service efforts. The role involves representing the program at meetings, events, and fundraisers, while maintaining compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.
Essential skills include recruiting within NCAA and Ivy League rules, developing competitive athletes, managing staff, ethical conduct, fostering inclusivity, coaching and motivating student-athletes, and possessing organizational, interpersonal, communication, budgeting, and computer skills.
All offers are contingent upon background checks and education verification. Employees must adhere to NCAA, Ivy League, and university rules, and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certifications. Annual NCAA rules education is required.
