A leading university seeks a Head Coach for Women's Basketball to operate all facets of an NCAA Division III program. Overview
Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, 20 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won thirteen NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup in each of the last 10 years, including winning the Director's Cup in 2021-2022 as the top Division III Athletic Department in the nation. Tufts Athletics oversees the Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities, including the Steve Tisch Sports & Fitness Center which opened in 2012. What You'll Do
The Head Coach for Women's Basketball is responsible for effectively operating all aspects of an NCAA Division III women's basketball program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting academically qualified and athletically talented high school athletes, leading and managing the student-athletes and assistant coach, organizing and running practices, creating and sustaining an environment that supports the Tufts mission, building a competitive schedule, operating the program within budgetary limits, managing administrative tasks effectively, and actively participating in alumni engagement and fundraising activities.
Essential Functions
- Direct all aspects of a comprehensive NCAA Division III varsity women's basketball program, providing a transformational student-athlete experience, which complements the Tufts University mission
- Identify, evaluate and successfully recruit highly-selective student-athletes within the framework and guidelines of University and conference policies and procedures
- Educate and effectively coach student-athletes
- Supervise and direct assistant coach(es), ensuring adherence to all association, conference and university rules by student-athletes and support staff
- Conduct team and program fund-raising and external/alumni relations as needed
- Complete secondary department duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Additional Information
The department’s budgeted salary is targeting the low to mid-point of the salary range.
Basic Requirements
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by a Bachelors Degree
5-7 Years experience coaching experience
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively coach the sport, develop and relate to student-athletes in an extremely competitive academic environment
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; gender equity; and the mission of Tufts University
Knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and a commitment to abide by them at all times
Ability to recruit academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes to Tufts
Dedication to the full academic, athletic and social development of student-athletes
Extensive knowledge of the sport and a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies with a demonstrated ability to enhance student-athlete development
Ability to communicate effectively and foster positive relations with fellow athletics department staff members, student-athletes and other members of the Tufts community, including faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and local community members
Valid driver's license and ability to travel
