Job description

Eastern University is seeking applications for a Head Coach of Competitive Cheer. This position will report to the Director of Athletics and will play a vital role in a growing department. Eastern University competes in NCAA Division III in 21 sports. The Head Coach of Cheerleading and Competitive Dance will work tirelessly to recruit, coach, teach, and form relationships with our student-athletes during their time on campus. Ability to engage in fundraising opportunities both on and off campus for the betterment of the team and University.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • The evaluation and selection of prospective student-athletes to compete competitively in Cheerleading and/or a Competitive Dance team.
  • Responsible for teaching and choreographing cheer and dance routines for both programs.
  • Conduct effective team practices both in and out of season.
  • Development of a team schedule to meet all NCAA and MAC requirements, while competing on a local, regional and national level.
  • Supervise, monitor and evaluate the academic progress of each student-athlete in accordance with University, MAC Conference and NCAA regulations to maintain athletic eligibility.
  • Meet all recruitment goals set for the program by the Director of Athletics; including roster minimums for Cheerleading (24) and Competitive Dance (12).
  • Regularly attend recruiting events and competitions throughout the year.
  • Respect and represent the program in a professional manner.
  • Monitor and adhere to Eastern University, Title IX, NCAA, and MAC policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Embody values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
  • Seek to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect, seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A Bachelor’s degree is required. Demonstrate knowledge in NCAA DIII rules along with the MAC Conference. Prior coaching and/or cheer or dance experience is necessary. Ability to learn and use various recruiting software and social media platforms.

The ability, and desire, to work successfully within a team-oriented department environment is required. A commitment to the Division III philosophy of athletics, a working knowledge of NCAA rules, and a demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and mentor student-athletes is essential. Candidates must exhibit an understanding of, and support for, the University’s Christian Mission. Additional qualifications include excellent interpersonal and organization skills and an ability to effectively communicate the mission and vision of Eastern University and the Athletic Department to alumni and friends of the university.
