Job Description and Position Requirements:

Penn State Altoona Athletics is seeking candidates for the position of Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach and future Track and Field coach. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing, and operating the NCAA Division III varsity intercollegiate men's and women's Cross Country and Track and Field programs, including coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, fundraising, and managing the program within university and NCAA policies.

The Coach will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with university policies, state laws, and NCAA rules.
  • Overseeing assistant coaches, staff, boosters, and student-athletes to verify compliance, with a mandate to self-report violations.
  • Recruiting, evaluating, and retaining prospective student-athletes.
  • Coordinating practice planning, skill development, and designing coaching strategies.
  • Supporting the coordination and execution of athletic programs.
  • Supervising and training athletic programming staff, developing employee manuals, and implementing training programs or internships.
  • Implementing marketing and advertising plans, and presenting at camps, clinics, and events.
  • Maintaining safety policies and certifications, and ensuring proper equipment use and maintenance.
  • Adhering to the program's strategic plan and budget within university guidelines.

Additional requirements include:

  • The ability to physically demonstrate complex movements and skills.
  • Proven success in a college or equivalent high-level cross country/track and field program, including student retention and team success.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate, and develop Division III student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of the sport, fundamentals, strategies, and NCAA rules.
  • Commitment to academic standards and NCAA Division III philosophy.
  • Reputation for integrity.

Penn State Altoona is a member of NCAA Division III and the AMCC. The position also involves operating live stats, updating the athletics website, and posting content on social media.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree, three years of related experience, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle with valid license and background checks.
