License and Certification Qualifications: Georgia teacher certification required.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university required.

Experience Qualifications: No prior experience necessary. Experienced recognized on salary schedule.

Skills Qualifications: Up-to-date knowledge of applicable sports; ability to teach desirable traits of character; ability to organize and implement related sports programs; ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with other staff members and community support groups; knowledge of safety practices; knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools policies and procedures; effective instructional practices; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and the community; excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent human relations skills.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for leading the development and implementation of program functions and activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport.

  1. Teach the desirable traits of character such as persistence, desire to win, teamwork, and cooperation.
  2. Promote interest, skills, and lifelong participation in various physical activities.
  3. Teach knowledge and understanding of athletics and of the fundamentals, rules, and strategies of sports.
  4. Assist in organizing and administering the athletic program so that it is closely integrated and thoroughly coordinated with the general purposes of education.
  5. Maintain inventory and ensure proper care, maintenance, and storage of all athletic equipment and supplies.
  6. Ensure that all athletes have parental permission, insurance coverage, and medical examinations.
  7. Arrange for transportation of injured students to emergency treatment facilities.
  8. Approve all recommendations for athletic awards.
  9. Teach the values of self-discipline, sound physical condition, healthy lifestyle, and cooperation.
  10. Provide an opportunity for competition on an equal basis for all students.
  11. Supervise the locker rooms before, during, and after practice sessions.
  12. Emphasize safety in teaching techniques and elements of play and thoroughly educate the players in the rules of the game.
  13. Maintain a harmonious relationship with all district employees.
  14. Ensure transportation arrangements to all athletic events, according to county procedures.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
