Description

As a head coach in Pfeiffer University's intercollegiate athletic program, the incumbent will be responsible for all functions relating to the management and running of a successful Division III men's and women's golf programs, including recruiting, budget management, student-athlete supervision, scheduling events, and fundraising. Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, Conference rules & regulations, bylaws, constitutions, and related university rules, regulations, and policies.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for recruitment of prospective student-athletes for both men's and women's programs as set by the Athletic Director.
  • Manage the relationship between Pfeiffer athletics and our practice facilities at both Tillery Traditions and Old North State Country Clubs.
  • Manage all aspects of the golf program, including coaching the team during traditional and non-traditional segments; planning, organizing, and supervising practices.
  • Fiscal responsibilities include budget management and fundraising for the women's soccer program and assisting with department fundraising efforts.
  • Develops and maintains a competitive program while maintaining compliance with NCAA and USA South rules and regulations. Educating self, assistant coaching staff and team on NCAA Compliance rules.
  • Responsible for the overall discipline/conduct and academic progress of players.
  • Inventory and order supplies and equipment for both programs.
  • Report any needs or maintenance of the facilities and equipment to the director of athletics or sport administrator.
  • Assist in academic monitoring and support for student-athletes.
  • Maintain and develop alumni engagement and build donor relationships.
  • Organize annual summer camps and clinics.
  • Abide by Pfeiffer University, NCAA, and USA South rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts for the sport within the guidelines set forth by the athletics department and the advancement office.
  • Represents the institution and the department in a positive and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned by the athletic director, including but not limited to, game management responsibilities and assisting with department events and fundraising activities.
  • Responsible for monitoring an institutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coach supervision is to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
  • Supervise student-athletes participating in the sports program; supervise and direct eligible student-athletes participating in the University work-study program. Coordinate and manage the activities as they relate to the annual golf outing.

Full-time, 12 months.

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to extreme cold and heat. The scope of the position frequently requires working weekends, as well as overnight, out-of-town travel, particularly during the sports season to attend athletic events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master'sdegree preferred.
  • One to three years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lead and guide Division III student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orallyand in writing.
  • Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
