Job summary

SCRIBNER MIDDLE SCHOOL in New Albany, Indiana seeks an Head Coach for Boys Volleyball 8th grade to lead athletic programs and develop student-athletes. The role reports to the Athletic Director and requires coordination of practices, game schedules, and adherence to NFHS/IHSSA rules.

The ideal candidate will have high school coaching experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to sportsmanship and safety.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
• Prior coaching experience desirable.
• Knowledge of NFHS, IHSSA, and/or other applicable rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of basic First Aid and Athletic Training practices.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches, and community while fostering a positive atmosphere.
• Alternatives to the above may be acceptable as determined by Administration.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual student athletes in mechanics and skills necessary for achievement in competitive sports.
• Coordinates and supervises a regular schedule of practice.
• Encourages sportsmanship and team unity and enforces all sportsmanship guidelines.
• Enforces discipline of contest, school, conference and state rules and regulations.
• Supervises coaching staff; provides opportunity to enhance their professional development.
• Oversees safety conditions and accountability involving students and facilities.
• Maintains accurate records of uniforms, equipment, statistics, and accomplishments.
• Submits required forms and athletic documents; recommends equipment purchases.
• Attends required meetings and clinics for coaches and state/conference activities.
• Works with Athletics Department, staff, student athletes and parents on schedules.
• Develops a total K-12 program, on/off season, through camps and drills.
• Develops fundraising plans with Athletic Director for communication with stakeholders.
• Coaches may transport athletes in corporation vehicles; valid driver’s license required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Principal/AD.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Enforces discipline of contest, school, conference and state rules and regulations.
• Supervises coaching staff; provides opportunity to enhance their professional development.
• Oversees the safety conditions and accountability issues involving students and facilities located both on NAFCS properties and at off campus facilities.
• Maintains accurate records of uniforms, equipment, individual/team statistics, and accomplishments.
• Submits required forms and athletic documents; recommends purchase of equipment and supplies.
• Attends required meetings and clinics for coaches, State and conference selection, and Athletic Boosters.
• Provides and displays a willingness to work with Athletics Department Administration, staff, student athletes, and parents with a dynamic practice and game schedule.
• Develops a total K-12 program, on and off season, through camps, drills, and training.
• Coordinates and develops effective and sustainable fundraising plan with Athletic Director that is easily communicated with administration, players, coaches, media, and community.
• Coaches may need to transport athletes in corporation vehicles from time to time, a valid drivers license is required to meet this responsibility.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Principal, Athletic Director, and/or other designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
