Job summary

Punahou School is seeking a Head Coach for the Boys Intermediate Soccer team to inspire, motivate, and develop student athletes while teaching techniques, rules, and game strategies. The ideal candidate will have prior coaching experience in an educational setting, strong communication and organizational skills, and a proven track record of leadership in a large school program.

Work year is 3 months with winter season 2026-2027; hours Monday–Friday late afternoons, and weekends; stipend range

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Two years of leadership in a successful interscholastic program as a head coach or equivalent.
• Background in teaching preferred, with experience working with adolescents.
• Knowledge of the value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level.
• Development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive/defensive schemes, and off-season expectations.

Responsibilities

• Inspire, motivate, and develop each student athlete while teaching techniques, rules, and strategies.
• Model sportsmanship and develop a team system based on each athlete’s unique abilities.
• Demonstrate positions and coaching practices with clear communication and organization.
• Lead practice planning and game preparation for the boys soccer program.
• Collaborate with school staff to integrate athletic goals with student growth.

Punoo School is actively recruiting a Head Coach for the Boys Intermediate Soccer team. The Head Coach will inspire, motivate, encourage, and develop each student athlete while teaching techniques, rules, and strategies. The Head Coach will also teach and model sportsmanship, and develop a team system based on the unique ability of each student athlete. The ideal candidate will have previous experience coaching a Soccer team in an educational setting, good communication and organizational skills, physical ability to demonstrate positions usual to the sport, and a positive and effective track record of coaching performance.

Position Details

• Work Year: 3 Months
• School Year: 2026-2027, Winter Season
• Work Hours: Monday - Friday late afternoons, and weekends
• Stipend Range*: $1920 - $6990 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Two (2) years of experience and a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic program as a head coach, or other significant leadership experience in building and maintaining a successful large school program, or other professional-related or athletic-related experience.
• Background in teaching preferred, with experience working with adolescents.
• Knowledge of the value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level.
• Substantial knowledge of the game as demonstrated through the development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive and defensive schemes, implementation of off-season expectations for student athletes, and the implementation of effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices.
