Job Summary: Head Cashiers are responsible for providing excellent customer service to all guests at the Point of Sale (POS). They ensure each customer leaves Pete’s Fresh Market with an outstanding experience, while delivering fast, friendly, and accurate transactions. They must maintain proper control of cash, ensure customer satisfaction, and safeguard company assets. This position requires adhering to all procedural guidelines set by the Front End Department and the company.

As a team member of Pete’s Fresh Market, it is important that Pete’s Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service are always exemplified.

Essential Job Requirements

1. Must have a complete knowledge of all produce codes, bakery codes and an extensive understanding of weekly sale items, company coupon policy, and other store policies required during check-out.
2. Issues receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks or change due to customers.
3. Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits.
4. Operates cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, enter in PLU or UPC manually, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen.
5. Maintains clean and orderly checkout areas and makes sure no personnel items are in the area.
6. Ensures all service standards are frequently met and often exceed company expectations.
7. Assists with actual store operation activities such as stocking shelves, assisting with customers, and cleaning, depending upon business needs.
8. Maintains a positive work environment for all cashiers.
9. Resolves cash tills at the end of every shift.
10. Manages and performs all check-out functions on a daily basis.
11. Communicates clearly and openly with customers.
12. Manages the check-out area and ensures each station remains clean and efficiently run.
13. Responds to Cashiers’ requests for price checks and other functions for customer service.
14. Listens to customer complaints and questions and refers them to the Customer Service Lead when required.
15. Ensures all stations have adequate cash and change at all times.
16. Serves as the primary point-of-contact for customer service associates.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. with 0-3 years of experience in grocery store or similar retail environment. Must have a valid and up to date Food Handler’s Certificate. Must have above average cash handling and basic math/calculating skills.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service. Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow team members. Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands

Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs. Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff. Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing. Must have reliable source of transportation.
