Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach

Portage Central High School

Job Summary:

Responsible for all facets of the high school boys' basketball program at Portage Central High School.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all three programs: Varsity, JV, and Freshman
• Directly coach the PCHS boys Varsity Basketball team competing in the SMAC
• Assist Athletic Director in the development of schedules for all levels
• Assist Athletic Director in the coordination of travel
• Work and coordinate with the girl's basketball coach in regards to practice times and sharing of equipment when needed
• Coordinate and lead the PCHS boys' basketball booster club and provide a short-term and long-term vision
• Maintain program inventory and work with the Athletic Director on program budget
• Select, manage, and evaluate all coaching staff positions
• Conduct and coordinate the summer basketball youth camp and mentoring off-season workouts

Qualifications:

• Previous basketball coaching experience with a preference towards someone with previous head coaching experience
• Superior technical knowledge of the sport of basketball
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, boosters, parents, other coaches, administrators, and news media
• Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with students, other coaches, administrators, and parents
• Proven ability to handle administrative responsibilities of a high school athletic program
• Transparent and proactive communication, well organized and detail oriented
• Has high expectations and coaches with passion and integrity
• Successful experience in mentoring and developing a coaching staff
• Familiarity with local and regional travel basketball organizations and willingness to make connections and establish relationships that enable a smooth transition from one season to the next
• Proven ability to attract students to their program and retain them for multiple years
• Ability to deal with and resolve conflict
• Desire to serve others and put others first
• Ability to understand and follow policies (PCHS, PPS, & MHSAA)
• Must undergo a background check and fingerprinting
