Job summary

Sul Ross State University is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee the men’s baseball program. You will provide governance, ensuring competitive performance while complying with NCAA Division II, Lone Star Conference, and university rules.

You will recruit top student-athletes, supervise staff, coordinate schedules, and manage budgeting and compliance. Nights and weekends required; fundraising is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred (kinesiology or physical education or applicable field).
  • Collegiate level head coaching experience.
  • Personnel management & supervision experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all aspects of the men’s baseball program.
  • Coordinate practices and travel for in-season and out-of-season play.
  • Monitor student-athletes’ academic performance and graduation progress.
  • Recruit and matriculate high-caliber student-athletes.
  • Prepare and manage the baseball program budget and equipment.

Bachelors Degree. Previous baseball coaching experience.

Preferred

Master’s Degree in kinesiology or physical education, or applicable degree. Collegiate Level Head Coaching Experience. Personnel Management & Supervision. Valid Driver’s License.

Primary Responsibilities

Summary

Function: Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all aspects of the men’s baseball program at Sul Ross State University to insure a competitive and successful program, following all NCAA Division II, Lone Star Conference ( LSC ) and university rules and regulations. Maintain and monitor a compliant environment that results in clear institutional control of all the baseball program relative to the Lone Star Conference and NCAA legislation as required by NCAA Division II membership. Additionally, all athletic personnel are required to self-report any and all rules violations that have either been direct violations or observed.

Scope: Coordinate all aspects associated with running a competitive NCAA Division II baseball program.

Duties

Essential: Identify, attract and matriculate outstanding student-athletes who demonstrate the ability to be academically and athletically successful.

Schedule practices for both in season and out of season

Schedule all competitive events and complete all travel arrangements.

Monitor student-athletes academic performance. Emphasis on graduation rates and academic progress.

Monitor all workouts to ensure student-athlete safety

Be knowledgeable of, and abide by, all university, NCAA Division II, and Lone Star Conference ( LSC ) policies

Recruit and retain high quality student-athletes

Correspond with prospects using a variety of communication channels; including written, in person contact, phone and visits.

Support student-athlete academic and athletic excellence, leadership development, team development and community service.

Maintain database of information regarding recruiting, including number of contacts, number applied, number visited, number accepted and number enrolled.

Ability and willingness to fundraise

Prepare and manage the budget for baseball

Order and maintain all equipment necessary

Stay current with developments in the profession

Maintain NCAA , Lone Star Conference ( LSC ), and Texas State University System Compliance

Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Clear knowledge of the sport(s) of baseball; ability to develop a competitive program.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, student-athletes and alumni

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Strong recruiting and coaching skills

Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of students, parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff, administration and the community.

Proficient with technological recruiting and coaching tools

Clear understanding of, and commitment to the NCAA Division II Philosophy as well as NCAA , LSC and departmental rules and regulations

Working Conditions

Usual: Nights and Weekends required. Position is Security Sensitive.
