Job summary

ATI Sports Medicine seeks a Head Athletic Trainer in Ypsilanti, MI (Lincoln High School) to provide front-line athletic training services in a multi-athlete high school/collegiate setting and supervise the Outreach Athletic Trainer team.

The role involves coordinating schedules, liaising with athletic directors and physicians, and delivering preventative care, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport support while maintaining ATI procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training or related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Preferred 7 years’ experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask with high attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and EMR systems.
  • Ability to lead a team and develop relationships with school ADs and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Liaises with affiliate ADs and team physicians; coordinates ATI Outreach Athletic Trainers in the area.
  • Assists Sports Medicine Managers with quarterly check-ins.
  • Coordinates staff Outreach Athletic Trainer schedules for the affiliate.
  • Administrative duties including NCAA documentation, audits, meetings, and insurance claims.
  • Provides onsite comprehensive care including prevention, rehab, and return-to-sport support.
  • Monitors rehabilitation plans for athletes.
  • Coordinates in-clinic rehab transitions with ATI PT/OT staff.
  • Manages affiliate relationships with positive communication.

Job description

Head Athletic Trainer

Location: Ypsilanti, MI – Lincoln High School

Status: Full Time

Overview

This position provides direct front‑line support for affiliate athletes throughout the contract and/or athletic season in a multi‑athletic high school or collegiate setting. The Head Athletic Trainer works directly with affiliate stakeholders to provide athletic training services, abiding by ATI operating procedures. In larger affiliate contracts, the Head Athletic Trainer provides supervisory support, serves as the central contact point, coordinates scheduling and delegation of responsibilities among the Outreach Athletic Trainer team.

Responsibilities
  • Liaises directly with the affiliates’ Athletic Director(s) and Team physician(s), and ATI’s Outreach Athletic Trainers within a specific affiliate area with at least 3 ATI Athletic Trainers staffed per the contract.
  • Assists Sports Medicine Managers with quarterly check‑ins.
  • Coordinates staff Outreach Athletic Trainer schedules for the affiliate.
  • Responsible for administrative duties specific to the contract, including NCAA documentation requirements (for collegiate level only), administrative audits, attending department meetings, processing insurance claims, etc.
  • Provides onsite comprehensive and coordinated care for athletes, including preventative solutions/interventions, sport enhancement training, sideline support to triage and assess potential injuries and staff, facilitates post‑injury rehabilitation and return to sport, and supports the Training Room.
  • Assists and monitors the rehabilitation treatment plan specific to the athlete and injury.
  • Coordinates in‑clinic rehabilitation transitions with ATI’s PT/OT services where applicable to facilitate safe and timely return to sport.
  • Independently manages the relationship with the affiliate by maintaining a positive work atmosphere and effective communication with all stakeholders.
