Head Academic/Co‑Curricular Activity Coach
Job Description
Responsible to the Principal, this role enables students to develop the skills needed to effectively and safely participate in extracurricular/co‑curricular activities.
Responsibilities
- Promote academic teams and/or co‑curricular activities in the schools and community.
- Plan assigned academic or co‑curricular programs.
- Organize and supervise practices and events.
- Teach individual fundamental skills, team building, team strategy, and the rules and regulations of the organization/event.
- Teach elements of good sportsmanship and self‑control that display professionalism.
- Respect the integrity and judgment of event organizers, officials, and volunteers.
- Check eligibility of participants, including parent consent, grades, attendance, physicals, and insurance coverage if applicable.
- Provide students with a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
- Conduct learning experiences with small groups of student participants.
- Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student participants.
- Attend all related in‑service training, professional meetings, and staff development workshops.
- Develop good rapport and lines of communication with individuals and groups, including student participants, parents, school personnel, officials, media representatives, etc.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Fundamentals of the co‑curricular activity.
- Health and safety regulations.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic knowledge and experience with the co‑curricular activity to be coached or coordinated. Preferred experience coaching or working with students in extra‑curricular/co‑curricular teams.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year/season to be determined by the board of education.
