Description of Work Unit

Human Dimensions of Natural Resources ( HDNR ) is one of five academic departments in the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University. The other departments are: Ecosystem Science and Sustainability; Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology; Forest and Rangeland Stewardship; and Geosciences. The mission of the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources is to contribute to the conservation, stewardship and enjoyment of natural and cultural resources and the management of those resources in a way that produces both land health and sustainable human benefits. Our focus is on strengthening the human dimensions of natural resource management and integrating the social sciences with biophysical elements of management. Our efforts are directed locally, nationally and internationally, across landscapes that include, and integrates across, public and private lands and resources.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will provide program coordination and instructional support to a graduate education partnership between the Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources ( HDNR ) at Colorado State University and the Central China Normal University ( CCNU ) in Wuhan, China. The partnership is comprised of the Masters of Tourism Management-China and the Masters of Parks and Protected Area Management-China. The position will involve instructional support (e.g., online course setup, translation and grading), student support, and program coordination. The position will be based in Fort Collins, Colorado at Colorado State University with timing consistent with both CSU and CCNU academic calendars. The successful candidate will be proficient in both English and Mandarin. Remote participation by the successful candidate will be considered.

Required Job Qualifications

The minimum, required qualifications for this position are:

  • Master’s degree in tourism management, parks and protected area management, tourism or recreation business and marketing, or a related field.
  • English and Mandarin proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension in professional settings.
  • Cross-cultural working experiences in higher education directly related to student support and program assistance
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellence in working with individuals from both the United States and China in a coordinated effort to support graduate education programs.
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellence in supporting graduate level instruction related to natural resource tourism management.
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellence in supporting graduate level instruction related to parks and protected area management
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and coordination skills in cross-cultural higher education.
  • Demonstrated or potential excellence in providing constructive and timely feedback to students’ work.

  • Provide instructional support for online instruction via the Canvas learning platform across the MTM -China and MPPAM -China programs as necessary, including online course setup, preparation, translation, grading, and maintaining up-to-date course materials
  • Coordinate with lecturers/instructors (including guest speakers) to ensure the delivery of engagement classes.

  • Work with both CSU and CCNU teams to handle day-to-day student requests, questions, and other issues, ensuring successful program learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate with CSU Online, CSU Registrar office, CSU Graduate School, and CSU Office of International Programs and provide program support from student admission to graduation.
  • Maintain and manage alumni relationships.
  • Organize and coordinate additional student experiences, such as collaborative activities with other HDNR programs, field trips in China and in the US, international conferences, and graduation ceremonies.
