Job Description

The Coding Educator, HB Coding reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

The Coding Educator is responsible for creating and delivering education to the Coding Team, Clinical Documentation Nurses, Physicians, and other licensed providers to improve documentation quality, ensuring optimal performance and representation of care. The educator collaborates with the CMOs to maintain the integrity of the Health Record through best practices in Clinical Documentation and Coding.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor clinical dashboard monthly to demonstrate improvement in statistical targets.
  • Coordinate with regional leadership to develop educational programs addressing identified opportunities.
  • Identify strategic plans to positively impact clinical dashboard results.
  • Develop relationships across regions to secure support and resources for education initiatives.
  • Conduct audits as requested.
  • Analyze dashboard and audit data to derive conclusions and create action plans.
  • Onboard new staff on coding protocols.
  • Develop teaching tools to promote quality outcomes.
Qualifications

Required:

  • RHIT or RHIA or CCS certification
  • Associate's degree in healthcare or related field
  • Minimum of five years of coding experience
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Critical thinking abilities
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Planning and time management skills
  • Experience in education/training

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or current enrollment in AHIMA RHIT HIM Program
