Job summary

LANXESS Deutschland GmbH in Pittsburgh is seeking a Senior Transportation Safety Manager to oversee dangerous goods and transportation safety compliance, including DOT, TDG, and related regulations, and to manage MOC for DG classification and packaging.

You will lead investigations of incidents, support emergency response, conduct DG and safety audits, and coordinate with SAP EHS data and CHEMTREC, ensuring safety across sites and warehouses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science-related field.
• 10+ years in transportation safety management.
• Certified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser.
• Knowledge of SAP EHS database.
• Advanced knowledge of DG and Transportation Safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with DOT, TDG and CTU Code requirements by managing and responding to internal and external customer requests regarding Dangerous Goods and Transportation Safety.
• Manages MOC for Dangerous Goods classification and packaging.
• Responds to incidents, investigates root causes, and provides advice to off-site emergency response for distribution incidents involving LANXESS materials.
• Tracks, investigates and manages all transportation related incidents to minimize impacts to human health and the environment, implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
• Conducts and manages Dangerous Goods, Transportation Safety and warehouse audits across warehouses, sites, terminals and storage facilities.
• Assists with SAP DG errors and blocks in the ERP database.
• Analyzes transportation regulations to ensure compliance with national and international regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG, TDG, FRA, ADR).
• 24/7 management of emergency response; Lead CHEMTREC contact for North America; support LATAM region; coordinate with HSEQs, Communications, BU’s, sites and GPL.
• Represents LANXESS in industry organizations to improve safety of dangerous goods transportation.

Job Highlights

Ensures compliance with DOT, TDG and CTU Code requirements by managing and responding to internal and external customer requests regarding Dangerous Goods and Transportation Safety;

Manages management of change (MOC) for Dangerous Goods (DG) classification and packaging;

Responds to, investigates root causes, and provides advice to off-site emergency response to distribution incidents involving LANXESS materials; Track, investigate and manage all transportation related incidents to minimize impacts to human health and the environment, implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents;

Conducts and manages Dangerous Goods, Transportation Safety and warehouse audits; Includes Warehouses, Sites, Terminals, Bulk Storage Facilities and Tollers (as needed) and provide guidance for acquisition sites;

Assists with problem solving of SAP DG errors and blocks in the ERP database;

Analysis and interpretation of transportation regulations to ensure compliance with national and international transportation regulations for all mode(Includes DOT, IATA, IMDG, TDG, FRA, ADR);

24/7 management of emergency response in the event of any transport or warehouse incidents; Lead contact for CHEMTREC for North America region; Support emergency response (as needed) for LATAM region; Coordinate with members of HSEQs, Communications, BU’s including sites and GPL to manage transportation incidents;

Represents Lanxess in industry organizations to improve safety of dangerous goods transportation for the chemical industry (DGAC, ACC, Chlorine Institute, CHEMTREC);

Experience / Skills

Bachelors degree in science related field; >10 yrs in transportation safety management, safety management, etc.

Greater than 10 years experience in hazardous transportation management;

Certified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser;

Problem-solving skills necessary for evaluating product chemistry and potential hazards;

Knowledge of the functioning and logic of the SAP EHS database;

Advanced knowledge of current DG and Transportation Safety regulatory requirements;
