This on-site role based in St. Croix involves supervising junior staff, coordinating field activities, and ensuring regulatory readiness while supporting projects across the USVI and the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in an environmental role with knowledge of monitoring and regulations.
• Experience with waste characterization, inspections, and compliance recordkeeping.
• CHMM preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the RCRA subject matter expert for clients, internal teams, and field personnel.
• Evaluate client operations to identify waste generation points and obligations for various generator sizes.
• Direct compliance across hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams and related handling.
• Own waste determinations, codes, accumulation limits, storage timeframes, and recordkeeping.
• Conduct facility inspections and document findings and corrective actions.
• Plan and direct waste sampling, develop plans, and coordinate with labs and disposal facilities.
• Perform internal audits, gap assessments, and support regulatory inspections.
• Monitor regulatory developments and translate requirements into actionable instructions.

Job Summary:

Tysam Tech is seeking a Hazardous Waste Specialist to serve as the company’s subject matter expert on the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and related federal, state, and territorial waste requirements. The role owns the waste management lifecycle for our clients, from identification and characterization through sampling, profiling, transportation, disposal, and final documentation. It operates with limited supervision and directs junior staff, technicians, subcontractors, and field personnel on waste handling.

The position is based in our St. Croix office with a regular on-site presence at client facilities, and supports projects throughout the US Virgin Islands and the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the company’s RCRA subject matter expert for clients, internal teams, and field personnel.
• Evaluate client operations to identify points of waste generation and document generator status and obligations for Very Small Quantity, Small Quantity, and Large Quantity Generators.
• Direct compliance across hazardous waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, universal waste, used oil, recyclable materials, electronic waste, and other regulated or special waste streams.
• Own waste determinations, waste codes, accumulation limits and storage timeframes, container management, recordkeeping, employee training, emergency preparedness, and contingency planning, including satellite and central accumulation areas.
• Conduct facility inspections and document findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions through closure.
• Plan and direct waste sampling. Develop sampling plans, select analytical parameters, and coordinate lab requirements with field personnel, subcontractors, waste brokers, transporters, and disposal facilities.
• Perform internal compliance audits, gap assessments, and regulatory readiness reviews, and support clients during regulatory inspections.
• Monitor regulatory developments and translate requirements into instructions for clients and field teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in an environmental role, including practical knowledge of monitoring and regulations.Working knowledge of RCRA and related federal, state, and territorial hazardous and non-hazardous waste requirements.
• Experience with waste characterization, profiling, facility inspections, and compliance recordkeeping.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills for internal and external engagements.
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
