Position Purpose:

The Hazardous Waste Operations General Manager oversees hazardous waste operations within a geographic area. Responsibilities include ensuring RCRA/OSHA compliance, environmental health and safety, waste management sales, treatment/disposal services, and personnel training. The role involves establishing compliance goals, managing budgets, and overseeing transportation, treatment, and disposal projects in accordance with EPA, DOT, and state regulations. The manager reviews waste characterization, disposal pricing, and service contracts, emphasizing sustainable operations and emergency response services. Expertise in environmental regulations, contracts, technical sales, and team leadership is essential.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Implement business plans aligned with company goals and compliance standards.
  2. Analyze and optimize costs related to hazardous and special waste services.
  3. Manage budgets for operations, equipment, personnel, and materials.
  4. Ensure compliance with EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
  5. Oversee environmental permits and regulatory reporting.
  6. Drive P&L performance and identify growth opportunities.
  7. Coordinate safety and environmental training programs.
  8. Manage maintenance for waste handling equipment and safety systems.
  9. Review contracts and pricing for profitability.
  10. Foster collaboration across operational, sales, and compliance teams.
  11. Optimize resource allocation across waste management operations.
  12. Develop team members and create succession plans.
  13. Adapt operations to regulatory and market changes.

Education, Experience, and Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science, business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial business experience with P&L responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Process Management, QA/QC, DOT, EPA, TSCA, OSHA regulations.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cost control skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Valid driver’s license
