Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking a Mid Level Hazardous Waste Safety and Environmental Specialist for a 6-month on-site assignment in Auburn, WA. The role supports site hazardous waste compliance, staff training, and regulatory reporting within a dynamic, multi-discipline team environment.

The candidate will work closely with environmental engineers, facilities staff, and site leadership to identify defects, implement corrective actions, and ensure continuous regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental, waste management, chemical or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive hazardous waste and/or waste management experience.
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Desirable certifications: CHMM, CPWM, HMS.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations.
  • Assist with closing gaps identified in regulatory compliance.

Role Overview:

This role is to provide overarching Hazardous Waste and EnvironmentalSafetyexpertiseto one of Apex's most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last 2decadesApex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve their occupational health and safety, ergonomic,environmentaland engineering goals.The incumbent will serve as a Hazardous Waste and Environmental Specialist to support site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations. This role is for the duration of 6 months located on site in Auburn Washington with possible extension based on performance and client need.

The incumbent willbe dedicated full time to supporting thesiteshazardous waste and environmental compliance operations.The individual in this role will work closely withenvironmental, engineering, maintenance, leadership, and EHS stakeholders toassistwith closingany and allhazardous waste and compliance gaps identifiedas well as supportingthe day-to-day operations.

Your Responsibilities as a Mid Level Hazardous Waste Safety and Environmental Specialist:
Project Background
  • Hazardouswaste background, including familiarity with Washington Dangerous Waste regulations
  • Familiar with related records (manifests, hazardous waste invoices, MSD, etc.)
  • Environmental compliance-oriented
  • Able to conduct walking inspections of RCRA accumulation/satellite areas
  • able to document and photograph areas of concern, then develop professional emails to convey desired mitigation
  • able to conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures were implemented
  • DOT trained -- desirable, but notrequired, and they would not be expected to sign manifests
  • Reasonable computer skills (data entry, email, able to pick up basic operations onthe client's internaldata baseand programs.
  • Able to work as part of a team withclient's current Environmentalemployees dedicated to hazardous waste compliance at the site.
Scope of Work
  • Factory Dust Disposal Project
    • Sampling
    • Tracking (locations & disposal requests)
  • Site Inspections- Small Quantity Generators
  • Land DisposalRestrictions- Review/Update Project Support
  • Battery Collection Location Updates w/HazMat
  • RCRA InspectionForms -compile, organize
  • Hazmat ECTs HW trainings - help develop a mini training program on regulatory compliance and policies at the site.
    • Visit crew meetings to train individuals or very small groups on policies, program aspects, compliance, etc
    • Ability to give small presentations is desirable but not required - we can do the presentations if needed
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering,environmental, wastemanagement, chemicalora relatedtechnical disciplinerequired.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive hazardous waste and or waste management, engineering, environmental/hazardous waste compliance. (Experience and education will be accounted for appropriately).
  • 40 hourHAZWOPER
  • Desired but not required:
    • OSHA 30
    • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager(CHMM)
    • Certified Professional in Waste Management (CPWM)
    • Hazardous Waste Management Specialist (HMS)
  • Excellent communication, training, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite and standard safety documentation and reporting practices.

Annual Expected Pay Range
