Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Fire Science, Hazardous Materials Technology, or related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in solid, liquid, or hazardous waste management, environmental health inspections, and industrial hygiene practices; or related combination with required certification.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to hazardous materials incidents, assess hazards, and coordinate cleanup with REHIT when needed.
  • Investigate environmental crimes, interview witnesses and document findings for enforcement.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with hazard materials laws and regulations; notify appropriate parties of violations.
  • Review and interpret federal and state laws related to hazardous materials and environmental health.
  • Coordinate training, obtain funding and travel to departments to conduct training.
  • Maintain equipment, inventory supplies, and routine office functions; prepare reports and correspondence.
