Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a Hazardous Materials Handler to identify, remove, package, transport, or dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Real-world tasks include operating heavy equipment and complying with OSHA safety procedures.

The role requires specialized training or certification in hazardous materials handling or confined entry, with on-call availability and travel as needed. CDL endorsement is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • A valid state driver’s license with no more than 3 active violations within the previous 3 years.
  • A valid state driver’s license with Class A CDL endorsement preferred but not required.
  • HAZWOPER certification preferred but not required.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of business principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment & tools involved in remediation services.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate hand and power tools, heavy machinery and equipment such as scrapers, vacuums, earth moving equipment, high-pressure sprayers, to remove, package, store or transport loads of waste materials.
  • Record the number of containers stored at disposal sites, specifying amounts or types of equipment or waste disposed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by monitoring safety procedures and equipment while carrying out tasks and work orders.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures to ensure safety and quality work product.
  • Prepare and maintain work records/reports of information such as employee time and wages, daily field tickets, or inspection results.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant safety policies and procedures; apply safety policies/ procedures to promote a safe work environment for the protection of clients, employees, and the public.
  • Interpret meaning of information to others.
  • Attend staff meetings; collaborate with others to communicate with supervisory personnel.
