Job summary

Maryland Department of the Environment seeks an Environmental Compliance Specialist III to ensure regulatory compliance at hazardous materials transport facilities and during shipments. The role includes emergency response, technical assistance, and oversight for incident mitigation.

Based primarily in North East Maryland and the Upper Eastern Shore, the position requires extensive field work, certifications, and ability to work in challenging conditions on highways and weight facilities.

Qualifications

  • Six years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Substitution options include degrees with related experience as described in the notes.
  • Selective qualifications require USDOT/FMCSA certifications and MSP CVSA Level VI HRCQ/Transuranic Waste Inspector eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance at hazardous materials transportation facilities and during en-route shipments with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide emergency response, professional technical assistance, and oversight for mitigation of transportation-related incidents.
  • Work primarily from North East Maryland and Upper Eastern Shore locations.
