Job summary

City of Laredo seeks a Hazmat Inspector to conduct scheduled and random hazardous materials inspections at warehouses, ensure compliance with local ordinances and federal regulations, and verify trainings are completed. The role requires maintaining ERP systems, Hazmat inventory accuracy, and adherence to DOT requirements.

Responsibilities include enforcing litter and dumping regulations, driving city vehicles as needed, and collaborating with teams to meet deadlines while upholding safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years of experience in solid waste operations, environmental science, enforcement, investigations, or hazmat.
• Valid Texas Driver License required.
• Texas DOT/HazMat related certifications within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hazardous material inspections at warehouses and enforce compliance with ordinances and regulations.
• Identify topics and ensure warehouses complete required trainings (DOT Training for Hazardous Material Employees).
• Establish and maintain Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
• Maintain Hazardous Materials Inventory accuracy.
• Enforce illegal dumping and discharge regulations and ordinances.
• Review and enforce the Commercial Litter Prevention Plan and related regulations.
• Drive City vehicle for city business as needed.
• Perform related duties as required.
