Job summary

Inspection Experts Inc. in Columbia, MD is seeking an Environmental Technician to safely abate and remediate asbestos, lead, and mold while supporting controlled demolition of affected building components.

The role requires hands-on containment setup, compliance with OSHA/EPA regulations, and the ability to operate specialized abatement equipment. A strong safety mindset and physical stamina are essential.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of direct experience in asbestos abatement, lead remediation, or hazardous waste cleanup.
  • Certifications such as State Asbestos Abatement Worker/Supervisor, EPA Lead-Safe Renovator (RRP) or Lead Abatement Worker, OSHA 10/30, and HAZWOPER 40-hour are highly preferred.
  • Must be medically cleared to wear a respirator and pass annual fit test.
  • Proficient with containment hardware, HEPA vacuums, negative air machines, wet-shave methods, and basic hand/power tools.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong teamwork and safety mindset with a proactive approach to zero-accident culture.

Responsibilities

  • Hazardous Abatement & Remediation: Safely remove, encapsulate, and abate ACM, lead-based paint, and mold.
  • Controlled Demolition: Precisely demolish contaminated components using tools and equipment.
  • Containment & Engineering Controls: Build and maintain negative pressure enclosures and decontamination areas.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations for hazardous materials handling and waste disposal.
  • PPE Protocol: Properly use, maintain, and inspect respirators and PPE.
  • Waste Handling & Disposal: Package and transport hazardous waste to approved facilities.
  • Site Prep & Restoration: Set up work areas and pass final clearance testing.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain logs and report safety hazards or near-misses.
