Job summary

Natera is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Waste Technician to join the Environmental Health and Safety team in Austin, TX. You will safely collect, label, and manage chemical, biological, and mixed wastes across labs, ensuring compliance with RCRA and DOT requirements.

In this hands-on role you’ll gain practical experience with waste manifests, recordkeeping, inspections, and on-floor operations while collaborating with researchers and EHS staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associates preferred.
• 0–2 years in lab, warehouse, facilities or environmental services; EHS internship/volunteer considered.
• RCRA Hazardous Waste training within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• DOT Hazmat Certification within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• Knowledge of RCRA (40 CFR Parts 260–270) and DOT (49 CFR) regs.
• Familiarity with lab safety, GHS/SDS, biosafety procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret SDS, waste labels, regulatory guidance.
• Strong attention to detail and regulatory documentation accuracy.
• Effective verbal and written communication; teamwork with lab personnel and EHS.

Responsibilities

• Collect, segregate, label, and transport chemical, biological, and mixed waste per RCRA satellite and central accumulation area requirements.
• Monitor waste accumulation start dates, container integrity, and labeling compliance.
• Move and manage biohazardous waste, including regulated medical waste and sharps, per biosafety guidelines.
• Prepare hazardous waste shipments per DOT regulations: packaging, labeling, and marking.
• Maintain operations by anticipating supply needs and executing waste pickups.
• Collaborate with EHS Supervisor on regulatory compliance, waste manifests, and inspections.
• Troubleshoot operational bottlenecks as they arise.
