Job summary

Hawaii Preparatory Academy's Village Campus is seeking a part-time Lower School Hawaiian Studies Teacher to educate Pre-K–5 students in Hawaiian culture, language, and hula, aligned with HPA’s sustainability framework.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential, has elementary teaching experience, and collaborates with colleagues while integrating technology to create a joyful, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential or equivalent.
• Experience teaching elementary school students.
• Ability to differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
• Strong written and verbal communication with families and students.
• Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, chant, and hula.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach Hawaiian Studies to Pre-K–5 students through weekly 30–45 minute lessons.
• Provide instruction in Hawaiian cultural practices, olelo Hawai'i, history, chant, and hula.
• Dedicate spring time to May Day preparation and Ho’ike planning with staff.
• Plan and lead the May Day Ho‘ike with the K–8 Music Teacher.
• Coordinate and lead makahiki games with Middle School teachers.
• Support Lower School assemblies biweekly (every other Monday).
• Collaborate with faculty to create place-based learning aligned with Hawaiian culture and sustainability.
