Job summary

Lines for Life seeks a Hawaii Statewide Outreach Manager to lead statewide outreach, education, and community engagement for YouthLine. You will collaborate with senior leaders to expand awareness of services, build partnerships with schools and youth organizations, and promote youth mental health resources across Hawai'i.

You will design outreach strategies, deliver trainings, supervise staff, and travel statewide to meet with partners and communities.

Qualifications

Compensation: Starting salary for this position is $27/hour plus benefits. Additional compensation includes a $2.00/hour differential for employees with a Master’s degree. Additional details are provided below.

Schedule: Typical schedule is M-F with flexible weekend hours based on outreach meetings and events. This position will travel statewide with regular travel to Maui.

About the Organization:Lines for Life is a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

About YouthLine: YouthLine is a free peer-to-peer help, support, and crisis line for youth ages 10-24. For over 20 years, the YouthLine has helped support the mental wellness of young people, prevent youth suicide, and change culture around mental wellbeing through peer-to-peer mental health support. Teen and young adult volunteers and interns receive extensive training to serve as peer Crisis Intervention Specialists for other youth and are supervised by educated clinicians with extensive crisis experience. The peer experience is critical: youth best understand the experience of their peers because they are living the same experience, uniquely situating them to provide meaningful, impactful support for youth in crisis.

Hawai'i Statewide Outreach Manager Position Summary: The Hawaii Statewide Outreach Manager collaborates with YouthLine Deputy Director and YouthLine National Director to lead statewide outreach, education, and community engagement efforts. This position develops and implements strategies to increase awareness of YouthLine services, promote youth mental health and suicide prevention, and strengthen partnerships with schools, youth-serving organizations, and community stakeholders throughout Hawai'i. This position supports other communication efforts that elevate the YouthLine profile in Hawai'i, including initiatives for social media, advertising and awareness campaigns.

This is a working manager position that combines relationship-building and direct outreach.

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

• Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life and YouthLine.
• Collaborate with YouthLine Maui Deputy Director to plan and implement statewide outreach and engagement strategies.
• Identify opportunities to expand awareness, utilization, and accessibility of YouthLine services throughout Hawaii.
• Assess community needs, service gaps, and emerging trends to inform outreach priorities and prevention efforts.
• Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide outreach initiatives and programs.

Community Outreach & Education

• Develop and coordinate outreach activities that increase awareness of YouthLine, youth mental health resources, and suicide prevention services.
• Deliver presentations, trainings, workshops, and educational opportunities for youth, schools, families, and community organizations.
• Provide prevention education lessons for schools and in classrooms.
• Represent YouthLine at conferences, community events, coalition meetings, and public forums.
• Promote help-seeking behaviors, reduce stigma, and increase awareness of mental health and suicide prevention resources throughout Hawaii.
• Support the development and implementation of youth mental health education and peer-to-peer engagement opportunities.

Partnership Development & Community Engagement

• Establish and maintain relationships with schools, school districts, colleges and universities, youth-serving organizations, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and government agencies.
• Identify and collaborate with the Maui Deputy Director to cultivate strategic partnerships that strengthen youth mental health promotion, suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts.
• Facilitate collaboration among community partners to improve coordination of services and resource sharing.
• Engage with and support communities that have historically experienced barriers to accessing mental health resources and services.
• Ensure outreach strategies are responsive to the diverse cultural needs of Hawaii's youth, families, and communities.
• Identify and speak at events and forums that promote youth mental health and wellness, youth engagement and reduce stigma.

Technical Assistance & Capacity Building

• Provide consultation, technical assistance, and resource navigation to schools and community partners.
• Support organizations in implementing youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention initiatives.
• Connect partners with available training, certification opportunities, and statewide resources.
• Assist schools and youth-serving organizations in identifying and implementing evidence-informed suicide prevention and mental health promotion practices.

Data, Reporting & Evaluation

• Track outreach activities, partnership development, training participation, and program outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to outreach efforts and grant requirements.
• Prepare reports and program updates as required by organizational leadership and funders.
• Utilize data and community feedback to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous quality improvement efforts.

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in statewide meetings, task forces, committees, and collaborative initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

HI Statewide Outreach Manager Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health, journalism, marketing or a related communications field.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in youth-serving, mental health, prevention, education, or community-based programs.
• Experience developing and maintaining community partnerships.
• Experience delivering presentations, training, workshops, or educational programming.
• Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership and team development skills.
• Strong public speaking, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships with diverse communities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based systems.
• Ability to travel throughout Hawaii, including occasional overnight travel.
• Reliable transportation.

HI Statewide Outreach Manager Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field.
• Experience working in youth mental health, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, or behavioral health settings.
• Experience collaborating with schools, educational systems, or youth-serving organizations.
• Experience with coalition-building, community engagement, and statewide initiatives.
• Crisis intervention or suicide prevention training (ASIST, safeTALK, Youth Mental Health First Aid, or similar).
• Knowledge of Hawaii's communities, cultures, and youth-serving systems.
• Experience working with underserved, rural, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and historically marginalized populations.
• Experience supporting grant-funded programs and reporting requirements.

Travel and Schedule Requirements:

• This position requires a flexible schedule to attend outreach meetings, training, and events. This includes some overnight travel.
• This position requires some work during evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position will regularly travel to schools, community events, forums, and meetings across all Hawai'i island
• Must have reliable local transportation.

Compensation information:

Starting salary for this position is $27.00/hour plus benefits. Additional compensation includes a $2.00/hour differential for employees with a Master’s degree, and a $1.00/hour differential for hours worked in the office when regularly working on-site at least three days per week.

This is a union position with a step progression based upon years of service at Lines for Life and below is the current step scale:

0-3 years: $27.00

3-5 years: $28.62

5-7 years: $30.34

7-10 years: $32.16

>10 years: $34.09
