Job summary

Blue Ocean Mariculture in Hawaii is offering a 10-12 week paid Hatchery Department internship for recent high school or college graduates. The role provides hands-on immersion in broodstock management, live feeds culture, larval rearing and nursery operations.

Interns work with seasoned Hatchery professionals, gain training across the hatchery process, and learn biosafety, data entry, and daily husbandry tasks in a warm, humid tropical setting.

Qualifications

• Interest in aquaculture, biology, ichthyology, marine biology or similar field.
• Basic computer skills with MS Office and Google Workspace.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in warm, humid conditions.
• US work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and promptly respond to the well-being of fish and live feeds.
• Prepare and distribute feed according to established plans.
• Gather and harvest eggs and live feeds.
• Perform cleaning tasks on filters, systems, and tanks, including handling chemicals.
• Manage fish, necessitating entry into tanks.
• Adhere to biosecurity procedures.
• Document management data in computer databases.
• Count, sample, and assess fish, rotifers, and artemia.
• Feed larval fish and monitor their condition.
• Fulfill additional duties and tasks as assigned.
