Job summary

Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a Haven Operator in North Kansas City to ensure safe, continuous operation of mill equipment and support product quality. You will troubleshoot, monitor mill processes, and perform maintenance while upholding safety standards.

You’ll work in a hands-on, fast-paced production environment with opportunities to contribute to quality improvements and efficient production flow.

Qualifications

• Previous mill operation or machine operator experience preferred.
• Tube mill manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong math and measurement skills.
• Good problem-solving and quality-diagnostics abilities.
• Clear written and verbal English communication.
• Basic computer skills to access work orders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and continuous operation of mill equipment.
• Monitor mill processes, load coils, run equipment and perform quality checks.
• Maintain equipment condition and perform preventive maintenance.
• Perform size, gauge, grade, and shape changes on the line.
• Inspect tooling and communicate reconditioning needs.
• Troubleshoot equipment and quality issues with crew and supervision.
• Assist with preventive maintenance tasks and mill adjustments.
• Coordinate mill changeovers and ensure smooth transitions.
• Communicate quality requirements to the mill crew.
• Complete production records and inventory documentation.
• Follow safety policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

About the Role

As a Haven Operator at Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, in North Kansas City, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and continuous operation of mill equipment while supporting product quality and efficient production flow. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced manufacturing environment, enjoys troubleshooting, and is committed to safety and quality.

What You’ll Do

• Ensure safe and continuous operation of machinery and report unsafe conditions.
• Monitor and control mill processes, including loading coils, operating equipment, and performing quality checks.
• Maintain equipment operating condition and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
• Perform size, gauge, grade, and shape changes on the production line for assigned tube and pipe mill.
• Inspect tooling condition and communicate reconditioning needs at the end of each rolling.
• Troubleshoot equipment and quality issues while coordinating with crew and supervision to maintain product quality.
• Assist maintenance with preventive maintenance tasks, including mill adjustments, fluid checks, and minor repairs.
• Direct and assist with mill changeovers to support smooth transitions.
• Communicate quality requirements clearly to the mill crew.
• Maintain offline requirements to support quick‑change operations.
• Calibrate micrometers at the start of shifts and during changeovers.
• Complete production records, paperwork, and inventory requirements accurately.
• Follow company safety policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

• Previous mill operation or machine operator experience strongly preferred.
• Tube mill manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Strong math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, and fractions.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, including diagnosing equipment and quality issues.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to interpret documents effectively.
• Basic computer skills to access work orders and key production requirements.
• Familiarity with measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers preferred.
• Ability to work overtime and non‑standard hours when emergencies arise. Regular, full‑time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule.

Physical Abilities

• Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and production equipment in an industrial environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including enhanced visibility uniforms and protective equipment as needed.
