Smithfield Foods is hiring for a General Plant Labor role. Join a team responsible for housekeeping, spill cleanup, shredding and rendering process support in a fast-paced plant environment.

Starting wage is $22.70 per hour with benefits including health insurance and education assistance. The role requires physical endurance, safety awareness and the ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical rendering and/or process equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting; safe operation of equipment.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to climb stairs and silos.
• Ability to stand for entire shift.
• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships.

Responsibilities

• General Plant Labor tasks.
• Housekeeping, hoses down floors, mopping, sweeping, emptying trash, picking up trash, etc.
• Shovel and clean up spills in the plant.
• Keep barrels emptied of trash and product.
• Clean equipment from top to bottom.
• Help unstop screw conveyors.
• Cut plastic and product off of screw.
• Keep floor drains cleaned out and covers on drains.
• Expected to perform other duties as assigned.
• Oversees rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage.
