Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking to hire for a General Plant Labor position. The role involves housekeeping, cleaning, and supporting the rendering process within the plant.

Candidates should be able to work nights/weekends and be comfortable in a manufacturing setting. Starting pay is competitive at $22.70 per hour with comprehensive health insurance, retirement benefits, and education benefits available to eligible team members.

Qualifications

• Experience in a plant or production environment preferred.
• Knowledge of general safety practices in industrial settings.
• Ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• General Plant Labor housekeeping: hosing down floors, mopping, sweeping, trash removal.
• Shovel and clean up spills in the plant.
• Keep barrels emptied of trash and product.
• Clean equipment from top to bottom.
• Assist in unblocking screw conveyors.
• Cut plastic and product from screws.
• Keep floor drains clean and drains covered.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Oversee rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage.

Job Description

• General Plant Labor Housekeeping, hosing down floors, moping, sweeping, emptying trash, picking up trash, etc.


• Shovel and clean up spills in the plant


• Keep barrels emptied of trash and product


• Clean equipment from top to bottom


• Help unstop screw conveyors


• Cut plastic and product off of screw


• Keep Floor drains cleaned out and covers on drains


• Expected to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred


• Knowledge of mechanical rendering and or process equipment


• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting; skilled in general mechanics and safe operation of equipment


• Ability to deal with minor problems involving equipment or various situations


• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed


• Ability to read and write


• Ability to climb stairs and silos


• Ability to stand for entire shift


• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.


• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
