Job summary

Amphenol Fiber Systems International in Allen, Texas is seeking a Cable Harness Design Engineer to design and develop fiber optic cable harnesses for standard and custom applications. You will create 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, perform tolerance analyses, and collaborate with engineering, sales, and manufacturing to deliver manufacturable designs.

Qualified candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, 2–5 years of relevant experience, and proficiency with SolidWorks and ERP

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical or Electrical preferred.
• 2–5 years of cable harness design or related mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and blueprints per specs.
• SolidWorks proficiency including 3D modeling and 2D drawings.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical specifications.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop cable harness layouts, assemblies, routing schemes, and detail drawings based on customer input and internal specs.
• Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks; include connectors, strain relief, transitions, and routing details.
• Perform tolerance analysis and design reviews for fit, function, manufacturability, and standards compliance.
• Collaborate with component engineering, sales, and manufacturing to ensure manufacturability.
• Support new product testing by preparing assemblies and design outputs.
• Identify design improvements and initiate engineering change notices as needed.
• Assist supplier development to ensure component availability and supply continuity.
